Mother-a tribute of a yearning son- is a book based on true events spanning nearly a month, from the day the first symptom showed up in the author’s mother till her last breath. The book narrates the several tests conducted, including biopsy, on his mother to diagnose her health condition as precisely as possible, and how the Doctors went ahead with a major surgical procedure called as ‘Whipple’s Technique’. The book further portrays how the post-surgery recovery did n’t happen as expected and how the author’s mother was then shifted to ICU, only to lead to gradual deterioration of her health. The doctor finally confirms a rare type of cancer called as ‘Ampullary Carcinoma’ due to malignant tumors in her Common Bile Duct (CBD). Inspite of putting up a brave and stiff fight against the cancer, she ultimately breathed her last on 18th February, 2016. This book does n’t showcase only the tough battle of an ailing mother against the ‘crawling crab’, but also the unshakable determination of the Doctor to save his patient and not the least, the perseverance and the resilience of each and every family member to hold on to the faintest of hope till the end. The author has also given a detailed account of the mourning ritual followed in the part of India to which his family belonged. The poetry section of the book has numerous poems dedicated to the author’s late Mother and all the mothers, both in human society and in all her forms.

8. HARAPPA 1 – Lure of Soma by Shankar Kashyap

Lure of Soma front coverBlurb-

It is in this context that the lives and trials and tribulations of people living in the Indus valley during the middle of third millennium BCE are tackled in this book. I have used existing archaeological evidence along with known historical evidence in writing this book. Rigveda talks about several conflicts among the descendants of the emperor Bharata and the Avestan scriptures talk about the conflicts between the Aryans and the Dasyus. There have always been fierce debates about who exactly these Aryans were and the Daevas mentioned in the Avestan scriptures. I have used some poetic license to accommodate the dates and times of various individuals and events to suit the story telling. The book tries to portray the life of ordinary people during the period of Harappans, while trying to tell the tale of the priestly kings, Magi, Rishis and Sages of the great Indus Valley Civilisation during the middle of third millennium BCE. This is the story of our hero, Upaas, a trainee physician from Harappa. It is a story of a young man growing up, falling in love, getting involved in adventures and finally fighting for the city he loves most – Harappa. The story shows the human elements of people around him. He faces friendship, love, hate, jealousy, treachery and deceit in day to day life. There is generous sprinkling of magic and sorcery. As the country of Ariana, west of Hindu Kush dries up, the Avestansfacing with near extinction take up arms against their neighbours to obtain the precious Soma. The tactics used include deceit, sorcery and finally a war between the Meluhhans and Avestans The Soma plant has been the centrepiece of several hymns in the Vedic scriptures. It is a plant still not accurately recognized. The Vedic people revered it as a God, drank the extract from the stalk of the plant, used the plant for medicinal purposes and it is supposed to have magical properties. There are hymns composed to the Soma within the Vedas.

Review

The Moon in the Sun is a tale in poetry which is set it in a village of Himalayas and which is about Nature, Tiger and a Man.

This book is different from most of the novel coming out these days. The unique way of telling a story in the form of poetry, a book where nature is at the centre of attention and various emotions coming out of lines which rhyme is what sets this book different from most of the books.

Language used in the book is simple and easy to comprehend. The tale is gripping and poetry makes it easy to read, follow and cherish.

Book cover gives hint about the genre and is appropriate with the theme of the book. Title is very long and difficult to remember but goes well with the book.

Except for the title, this book is perfect in every sense.

I would rate this book 4/5 stars.

Altogether, This book is unique and serves us a beautiful book about Nature and poetry.

I would recommend this book to the nature lovers and readers who are looking for something new to read.

Book Review- Broken Radio by NIshant Nishit

Book Name- Broken Radio
Author- Nishant Nishit
Genre- Fiction
Publisher- Notion Press Publications
Pages- 184
Price- ₹190

Blurb

This book is not for those who believe in happily ever after tales. It’s brilliantly creepy, violent and extremely offensive in nature. It preaches a cult philosophy against an emasculating consumerist culture.
The story is a brilliant mix of transgressed elements held together by dirty realism. It focuses on characters who feel confined by the norms and expectations of society and who break free of those confines in unusual or illicit ways. Because they are rebelling against the basic norms of society, protagonists may seem mentally ill, anti-social, or nihilistic. The book deals extensively with taboo subject matters such as drugs, sexual activity, violence, pedophilia and crime.

Review

Before starting my review, I want to congratulate Mr. Nishit for choosing and writing this genre in the time when Indian Authors are going after Romance Genre only.
To start my review, This book is quite an gore and talks about “realistic” and “dark” things about our society which exists and still are called as “Taboo”.
Author serves us story of Nik and  Aditya, how they met, their parallel stories interconnected with Violence and Gore content. It was interesting to read about all this stuff but over the time it felt like author is off the track from the main plot.
Plot is interesting and new one. Storyline goes well with the picture perfect characterization of Modern Youth.
I also liked the way author was putting his thoughts through the characters.
Language of the book is repetitive and however it goes well with the theme, a little more of vocabulary would have satisfied my literary thirst.
Narration is decent and complements the storyline.
Book Cover is beautiful with the broken radio and some blood. It gives us hint about the possible content in the book. Title is interesting and catchy. Blurb is straightforward and that’s why it catches attention of readers.
Overall, Broken Radio is one the unique book written by an Indian Author and though, story seemed little blurred, it was still an enjoyable read.
I would rate this book 4/5 stars and recommend this book to the fans of gore.

Author Interview- Nitin Kumar

Today we have Nitin Kumar, author of The Way She Loved with us.

  1. Tell us about yourself.

I am student of Journalism and mass communication, pursuing my graduation from National institute of mass communication, New Delhi. Being a bonhomie, I am pretty cool creature living under my own conditions. If I talk more about myself, I see myself as a dream chaser. Nevertheless I am not so called ‘ambitious’, however all matters for me, are my dreams.

  1. What brought you in this writing world?

To be very honest, I was always fascinated about writing and literature. I used to write poetries and short fiction stories since childhood. Moreover, I had a dream of writing my own novel from the schooldays. That’s why certainly, I am here today giving you my interview.

  1. What after writing?

See, I have several dreams that I always keep following. So, my next step would probably be the masters in business administration and after that others goals too. (Of course, keeping my writing parallel with further steps)

  1. What made you write The Way She Loved?

Clearly, there was two genuine reason behind writing down ‘The way she loved’. One is to fulfil my dreams of be an author. Second one is to avoid or can say compensate, the bad happenings of my life. I believe that everything happens for a reason, all we need is to convert it for a good one. So, this one also played very important role. Once you read the novel, you can easily get the reason behind writing ‘The way she loved’.

  1. Tells us a name of the character that resembles you?

Life keeps moving on and people too. So, I won’t like to consider any character as me because everyone has some own unbeatable originality and prospective. However, I see myself in a person (better not to mention the name) to whom I concord at various parameter. So, let the people guess.

  1. According to you what is the real meaning of literature?

I think, “Literature” is very ambiguous concept that one can define it either in one line or nevertheless in a book.  If I give you one liner answer, literature is somewhat penning down morality.

  1. Names of authors you follow. And why?

Though I am not bookworm but I usually prefer to read Indian authors like Chetan Bhagat, Sudeep Nagarkar, Durjoy Dutta and Ravinder Singh. Needless to mention here that they mostly write about love, romance and relationship which work in real life sometimes. So, one can get the better understanding of love and can have various phases of love through their novels.

  1. Anything about your upcoming work?

Ah, yes! I am currently working on the plot of my second novel jointly with my closest one. Probably, readers will able to get it into hands by the end of this year.

  1. What else after writing?

Besides writing, I love to give priority to my close people and doing crazy things for them. Rather than that, I love to paint as well my mood allows to do so or else interacting with the masses.

  1. How can our readers connect with you?

Readers can contact me on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, mentioning the user ids; nknitin567567, nitin567567 and nknitin567567 respectively. One can mail me either on: nitin567567@gmail.com
